The location of most deserts are within 15 degrees north of the equator or 35 degrees south of the equator(not including Antarctica). The location is what makes a desert. If a desert were to far north or south, it would receive more rain and wouldn't be a desert anymore. Many deserts though are far away from the equator and this is because some places are not hot but JUST dry. Antarctica receives just about no rain each year making it the largest desert in the world.
